Xbox 360Here's a quick tip... If you are having trouble with your Xbox360 wireless adapter getting a good signal, you can extend the adapter with a regular 'ol USB cable. I used a 6 foot USB extension cable and extended my Xbox360 wireless adapter a few feet closer to my wireless router. The signal improved dramatically.

Now I do not have a bad network connection as an excuse for my many horrible online deaths in COD4 and Halo 3.

Enabling ASP.NET 1.1 in IIS 6.0 PDF Print E-mail
Work - ASP.NET

ASP.NETRecently I found myself trying to load an old .NET 1.1 application onto a virtual machine that I had just set up. I ran into problems getting the application to load. This was because I had installed MS Server 2003 as the operating system on my virtual machine. Server 2003 comes with IIS 6.0 and is set up for .NET 2.0 applications.

The .NET 1.1 framework is disabled in IIS 6.0 by default. Because who needs .NET 1.1 anymore, right? Well I did... And you may be surprised at how many legacy .NET 1.1 apps are still out there.

It turns out that it is fairly simple to get .NET 1.1 working with IIS 6. You can enable this either by using the Configure Your Server wizard or you can manually enable it through Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel. This article deals with manually getting the .NET 1.1 framework working with IIS 6.

Potty mouthI was playing Call of Duty 4 on the Xbox 360 tonight and there was this young person on my team who sounded to be in his early teens. As soon as the game started this (obviously white American) kid developed a severe case of racial tourettes. I could not believe the language spewing out of this kid's mouth...

Normally I play games on another Xbox 360 in the house and the player volume is turned off on it so I do not have to be exposed to crap like this. But tonight I was on the second 360 and I was listening to the game through a pair of headphones. I did not like what I heard at all.

1337 Unread Messages PDF Print E-mail

1337 messagesIt happened a few years too late, but I am finally elite! I checked my email this morning and I had 1,337 unread messages in Outlook. Maybe it is a sign from the computer gods, indicating that I will become rich beyond my wildest dreams. Or maybe my 1,337 unread messages is just an indication that I signed up for too many RSS feeds, which count as unread messages in Outlook 2007.

If you are not familiar with the significance of the number 1337, it is one of the several terms that stand for "Leet" - which is short for "elite". Leet is also known as "Leetspeak". Leet or Leetspeak is kind of like a language of Internet slang terms.

Leet used to used by hackers who considered themselves "elite" - and a lot of these people were very good at hacking, cracking security codes, and things like that. Nowadays, Leet is used a lot for mocking people - especially people who are newcomers to the Web or to online gaming.

For instance, if you are playing Call of Duty 4 Xbox Live and some 12 year old tells you that you are a "leet gamer", then he is most likely making fun of you because he has your head in the crosshairs of his sniper rifle. He knows that your fun is about to be over. Not that I have actually had this happen...
